Changes are afoot
An announcement landed that the rental market was about to be shaken up. The new government said it would restore no-cause terminations and bring back tax settings for landlords, with the aim of making it easier to manage a property and to deal with anti-social tenants.
Alongside that was the reversal of the automatic roll from a fixed term into a periodic tenancy. The idea was more room for landlords and tenants to agree the term themselves, including longer tenancies rather than short-stay use.
The fine print arrived later, and we wrote it up once the dates were real in our summary of the Amendment Act. If a change affects a tenancy we already manage, we will say so directly rather than leave you to interpret a headline.
